The BBC 1 programme left viewers in no doubt that ChromaGen could deliver improved impressions of colour to the wearer, but stopped short of claiming a cure for the condition which the public may have expected given previous media coverage. Nevertheless, it told viewers that the ChromaGen lens was one of the first inventions to be chosen as a millennium product for the Millennium Dome. It also explained the technique, which involves sufferers wearing one lens to help their colour-deficient vision. The report, which said that more than 3m people in Britain were colour blind, claimed that the lenses could help those prevented from finding the job of their choice because of colour deficiency. Watchdog Healthcheck's report included comment from Jennifer Birch, senior lecturer in clinical optometry at London's City University, and London optometrist Nigel Burnett Hodd, who was shown testing a colour-deficient patient.
