The CIBA Vision Academy for Eyecare Excellence has launched a contact lens training tool for patients and support staff where practitioners can provide patients with a contact lens application and tutorial video directly to their mobile phones via Bluetooth technology.
The tutorial is part of the 'Getting started with soft contact lenses' support staff training module, which has been developed to provide practice staff with the knowledge and skills to ensure new contact lens wearers achieve a successful start in wearing and caring for their soft lenses.
Optometrist Dr Ian Moss said of the appeal of the format: 'My young contact lens patients love this download. It looks trendy and modern and seems to remove some fear before they have a go at putting in their contact lenses themselves. It's how they communicate and for me provides reassurance that they have this vital information at their fingertips.'
Hand hygiene, lens care, lens placement and removal are covered. There is also a more detailed version for support staff, with training on wearing and adaptation schedules, lens replacement and a section on contact lens do's and don'ts.
CIBA head of professional affairs Mark Draper described the training tool as the first in a comprehensive series of mobile education from CIBA Vision.
The tutorial can be ordered in DVD format free of charge via the Academy for Eyecare Excellence website or viewed online. The mobile version is suitable for almost all mobile devices and can be sent by Bluetooth or downloaded from www.cibavisionacademy.co.uk/professional_academy_application_and_removal.shtml.
