A slight increase in the overall value of the UK contact lens market was reported for 2012.
The Association of Contact Lens Manufacturers' (ACLM) latest market report showed a 1 per cent rise in market value compared to the prior year, to £234.4m. The total number of wearers during this period fell from 3.773 million wearers in 2011 to 3.714 million wearers last year.
Daily disposables represented 59.1 per cent of the market value, compared to 35.4 per cent for frequent replacement lenses. In terms of numbers of wearers, 43.3 per cent wore daily disposables while 46.8 per cent wore frequent replacement contact lenses.
