It was with some concern that I read the report in your April 10 issue concerning the trial in Scotland of the new Dollond & Aitchison contact lens home delivery service. While clearly outlining our plans, the article contained one very serious error. It wrongly stated that we had already received approval in principle from the General Optical Council for the service, something which was simply not the case. So concerned was I that I brought it immediately to the attention, not only of optician, but also of Richard Wilshin at the GOC, to ensure there could be no misunderstanding. I would, therefore, like to clarify the situation for your readers. The D&A scheme is very similar to one used by Opto Total Eyecare, to which the GOC has never raised any objections. However, we have not sought or received any direct endorsement from the GOC for our scheme, although we would seek talks with the Council should we decide to extend it nationwide. Russell Hardy Managing director Dollond & Aitchison Apologies for the error in our reporting. Editor
