The DVDs are aimed at registered optometrists, but could also be suitable for optometrists in training, providing instruction in the application of investigative techniques.
The dry eye programme is expected first and, as well as diagnosis of the condition, will cover the use of lid scrubs, tear substitutes or supplements and the use of punctum plugs.
The binocular vision programme will concentrate on diagnosis and treatment of BV abnormalities in key areas of investigative techniques and optometric management.
The DVDs will be distributed free to all registered UK optometrists and can be purchased by overseas optometrists, dispensing opticians and interested bodies.
The DOCET executive committee said that it wanted the programmes to combine a didactic approach with practical demonstration of the techniques, replicating as closely as possible a 'workshop' type training session. They are intended to encourage the audience, handling the subject matter in a positive and encouraging manner.
