Vision Express’ acquisition of Tesco Opticians is approved

Vision Express’ acquisition of 209 Tesco Optician practices has been rubber-stamped by the Competitions and Markets Authority (CMA).

Jonathan Lawson, CEO, Vision Express, said: ‘We are delighted the CMA has approved our acquisition and we look forward to welcoming the new stores into the Vision Express family.

‘This move will increase our network to almost 600 stores, allowing us to offer a thorough and individual eye health service to current and new customers in the UK and Ireland.’

The regulatory approval process was delayed last month after the CMA raised concerns that Vision Express would not face enough competition in three areas - Barrow-in-Furness in Cumbria, Helston in Cornwall, and Ryde on the Isle of Wight.

Patients in these areas could face price increases or a reduction in the choice of the products and services in-store. Vision Express agreed to divest practices in the locations.
