College publishes eye drops instillation factsheet

College issues member-only factsheet on eye drop instillation

The College of Optometrists has issued a members-only factsheet on eye drop instillation for hay fever sufferers.

The new patient factsheet will feature a 12 step process on how to use eye drops correctly and will advise patients to follow these instructions along with the manufacturer’s advice.

The College has advised that hay fever sufferers also wear sunglasses outside, which can help to protect eyes from pollen and dust.

Daniel Hardiman-McCartney, clinical adviser for the College, said: ‘Hay fever can cause considerable eye discomfort, and eye drops are one of the most effective ways to alleviate the symptoms. Our new patient factsheet offers the public a step by step guide on how to instil their eye drops safely and effectively. It’s key that people are using their drops correctly to ensure they have the maximum effect, helping to prevent the symptoms of hay fever developing and lessening their impact.’
