College publishes report on future of profession

Round table discussions hosted by the College of Optometrists have led to the publication of a new report analysing what the future holds for the optical profession.

The summary report outlined six areas for joint action, including IT connectivity in England, preparation for future regulation and examination of data which suggests a gender pay gap.

Director of research Michael Bowen said: ‘This meeting was a great starting point in addressing the challenges that await us as a result of emerging technology and a sector that is changing. It’s vital that we, as a sector, are proactive in tackling these issues to make sure that we are prepared.’
