News Associations

The College of Optometrists released the fourth edition of its professional practice guidance entitled Good Practice, Better Care including four new sections and several updates.

The four additional sections cover remote consultations and the delivery of virtual care; managing children with myopia; collaborative care pathways and visual field and retinal structural terms.

Updates to several pre-existing sections include instilling eyedrops; principles of the routine eye examination; ethical research and an equipment list for the routine eye examination.

An expert review group oversaw the update comprising vice chair of Optometry Scotland Eilidh Thomson, council member Dr David Hill and Optometry Wales clinical advisor Sharon Beatty.

'The review group has applied lessons learned from the pandemic and beyond to provide robust guidance which should provide every practitioner with clarity and confidence moving forward in their clinical practice for years to come,' said Thomson.

The updated open access guidance can be found on the College website and via an app for College members with supporting materials.

The College is also hosting a webinar for members on Thursday January 11, where clinical advisers will signpost users to the 2023 changes and answer any questions.
