
A plan to support the safe commissioning of eye care services has been outlined by the Royal College of Ophthalmologists and the College of Optometrists.
The professional bodies explained that current measures to protect people from contracting Covid-19 will ‘undoubtedly lead to vision loss’ that would have been preventable in normal circumstances.
It added that as restrictions of the pandemic lift, it is important to develop more integrated eye care between hospital eye services, community settings and primary care optometry.
A joint statement said: ‘Our vision for now and the future is the provision of pathways that ensure patients are prioritised based on their clinical need and to receive appropriate and accessible care.’
