Leaders intend to increase access to school screenings for children

Commonwealth leaders have committed to improving access to screenings and affordable vision treatments for children after meeting in Kigali, Rwanda.

The decision followed four years of campaigning by the Vision for the Commonwealth Coalition, which urged leaders to prioritise school vision screenings.

Peter Holland, chair of the Vision for the Commonwealth Coalition, said: ‘We praise Commonwealth governments for their global leadership in working towards the eradication of blinding trachoma. We also welcome this commitment to prioritise sight screenings and affordable treatment, so as many children as possible see clearly.’
