Consultation on CET proposals launched

The GOC has launched a consultation on proposals to change to CET

A public consultation has been launched by the General Optical Council on proposals to introduce changes to its continuing education and training (CET) scheme.

If introduced, CET could be changed to continuing professional development (CPD) with the aim to make the scheme more flexible for optometrists and dispensing opticians.

Views are being sought on how to provide practitioners with greater freedom to undertake learning that is relevant to their personal scope of practice.

Leonie Milliner, director of education at the GOC, said: ‘Our current scheme was introduced in 2013 and the type of work that optometrists and dispensing opticians carry out has expanded and diversified since then.
