CL technology could revolutionise capabilities of electronic vehicles

Contact lens technology could revolutionise the capabilities of electronic vehicles, according to research conducted by Surrey University and Augmented Optics.

Technology developed from polymers in soft contact lenses could boost the performance of high density super-capacitors, making it possible for electronic devices to recharge in seconds and also last longer, with researchers suggesting electronic cars could travel from London to Edinburgh without stopping.

This could have a huge impact across a number of industries including transport, aerospace, energy generation and household devices such as mobile phones and laptops.

Dr Brendan Howlin of Surrey University said: ‘There is a global search for new energy storage technology and this new ultra-capacity supercapacitor has the potential to open the door to unimaginably exciting developments.’
