Cooper revenues up despite Avaira recalls

Two contact lens recalls did not prevent US healthcare group The Cooper Companies posting a 15 per cent sales increase for fiscal 2011.

Revenue at CooperVision's parent company was $1,330.8m for the full-year period, as better margins helped the company absorb recall costs and grow profits.

Cooper Companies president and chief executive officer Robert Weiss stressed that each of the recalled products had represented less than 1 per cent of overall revenue. He added: 'We are proud of our many accomplishments including CooperVision's global launch of Biofinity Multifocal and its launch of Biofinity Sphere into Japan. We continued to gain market share, post solid margins, and significantly strengthen our balance sheet.
