Coopervision meets chain gang

Mayors and consorts of Basingstoke and Deane, Gosport, Hart, Havant, Isle of Wight, New Forest, Portsmouth, Rushmoor, Southampton, Romsey and Test Valley, were welcomed by managing director Anthony Galley, who outlined the company's growth since its establishment in 1994. Mrs Welsh had requested that Coopervision, a major employer in her area, and a company representing 21st century technology, should host her guests. The company's activity in five locations in the borough was outlined, along with latest lens developments. The civic dignitaries were also given a guided tour of the production facility. When asked what was the collective noun for a group of mayors, they replied unanimously 'the chain gang'.
