New data released by CooperVision has shown its net plastic neutral contact lens initiative has prevented the equivalent of more than 360 million plastic bottles from polluting the oceans.
‘As the first manufacturer to provide plastic neutral soft contact lenses, we are transforming and improving the wellbeing of people and planet,’ said Aldo Zucaro, senior director of corporate responsibility at CooperCompanies.
As part of its plastic neutrality initiative and in collaboration with Plastic Bank, CooperVision funded the collection and recycling of ocean-bound plastic. This not only benefited the environment but also improved lives in hundreds of coastal communities, by rewarding collectors with health, work and life insurance, groceries and school supplies. The company also premiered a mini film series which documented the partnership.
