Wholesale retailer Costco is looking to open discussions with 16 PCTs as a direct result of a High Court judgement awarded against it.
Nick Deeks, Costco UK's director, told Optician: 'Costco has recently advised all those PCTs upon whose ophthalmic lists they are included as supplying GOS of the recent High Court decision and hopes to be able to discuss its implications with them shortly.'
As reported (News, March 14), several PCTS were reconsidering their decision to include Costco on their GOS lists as a direct result of the judgement.
The judgement at the Royal Courts of Justice on February 19 found that in providing GOS, Costco would be in contravention of regulation 13A of the Health and Social Care Act 2001 in not being open to all individuals. Costco only allows members, who pay a £25 annual fee, and their guests to shop at its premises.
