
Covid-19 funding for general ophthalmic services contractors in England will continue until July 31, the Optometric Fees Negotiating Committee (OFNC) has announced.
It has been agreed to continue after the first phase of funding ended on June 30, meaning average GOS payments for this period being made in August are done in the usual way.
The OFNC said that it has pressed NHS England to take steps to ensure that practices in relatively deprived areas, which largely provide NHS care, and domiciliary providers, who have faced difficulties in reaching vulnerable patients can survive.
It added that the cost implications of infection control measures and preparing for a potential second wave or local lockdowns are being explored.
