The 48-year-old admitted to filling out false claims to the NHS for more than &\#163;3,800 so that patients at the Naylor's practice in Chester-Le-Street would receive free spectacles. The court heard that over 18 months during 1995 and 1996 Ms Willis falsified NHS documents, ranging in total from &\#163;15.15 to &\#163;69.90. The total of &\#163;3,863 has since been paid back to the NHS by her employer, George Naylor. Peter Smith, prosecuting, said: 'It involves public money which clearly must be a factor. But the money has been repaid by her employer so there is no claim for compensation.' Ian Quayle, defending, said: 'She [Willis] has not benefited by one penny from what has happened. All she has done is try to ensure customers receive spectacles without having to pay.' Unconditional bail was granted and the hearing was adjourned until July 30 for sentencing.
