A community ophthalmology service set up in the London borough of Croydon has been praised by LOCSU for putting optical practices at the core of its operations.
The service, run by a company set up by Croydon LOC called Complete Ophthalmic Services CIC, employed consultant ophthalmologist Professor Will Ayliffe to provide clinical sessions and act as the clinical lead.
Patients experiencing recently occurring eye conditions were to be treated closer to home. The service will also refined cataract and glaucoma referrals, and generally reduced the number of patients needing to attend secondary care.
LOCSU managing director Katrina Venerus said: ‘This is a fantastic achievement that demonstrates the flexibility of the LOC company model which is adaptable to meet the requirements of any community service.
