A couple who claimed for six pairs of designer glasses worth £1,500 in their expenses at the Citizens Advice Bureau they ran in Ammanford, South Wales were cleared by a judge, who compared their circumstances to the debacle over MP's expenses claims.
Dale and Sally Foster were accused of stealing £75,847 through expenses which also included first-class train rides and hotel stays. They were cleared, according to the Daily Telegraph newspaper, after the judge hearing their case directed the jury to find the couple not guilty because there were no guidelines as to what could and could not be claimed in expenses.
