Dispensing optician Nicholas Soan, who was caught stealing from Angus McFie Opticians of Tavistock, was struck off at a FTP hearing last week.
Soan, who did not attend the hearing, was cautioned last September by Devon and Cornwall police for stealing £2,623 from his employers, actions that were described by Peter North, chair of the GOC hearing as 'a most serious matter'.
When he was interviewed after the irregularities were discovered, Soan said he 'had been unable to pay his credit and store card bills'.
Elizabeth Evans, an administrator for the company, said in a statement letter that he had been in a position of trust for 10 years and abused that.
