Undiagnosed Type 2 diabetes for one in 74 people in the UK means at least 850,000 people are missing out on vital eye screening, latest figures showed this week. Diabetes UK urged the public to find out if they were at high risk during Diabetes Week 2012, while the charity broke a Guinness World Record by measuring 556 waists in eight hours on London's Southbank on June 11.

Barbara Young, chief executive of Diabetes UK, was pictured at the event with Steps star Lee Latchford Evans, whose father has the condition. She said: 'This is a real concern, because it is only by getting the condition diagnosed early that people can start getting the treatment they need to prevent serious health complications, including blindness, amputation, kidney failure and stroke.'
