To counter eye fatigue, irritation and dryness associated with the regular use of digital devices, Coopervision has introduced the Biofinity Energys monthly soft contact lens.
The CL has been designed with front-surface aspheric curves that distribute power evenly across the lens. The company said the curves simulated a positive power in the centre of the lens that reduced the effort placed on the eye when transitioning focus between near digital screens and distance objects.
The use of silicone hydrogel material, Comfilcon A, allows the lens to retain natural moisture in the eye. The CL has a rounded edge that the company said reduced conjunctival interaction and improved the comfort of wear. The lens has a base curve of 8.6mm. At -3.00D centre thickness was 0.08mm and Dk/t was 160.
Krupa Patel, professional services manager for UK and Ireland, said: ‘As a nation we rely on smartphones, tablets, laptops, in-car displays and other digital devices every day. Extended exposure to bright light, screen glare and longer periods of use can contribute to the issue of digital eye fatigue. The launch of Biofinity Energys offers practitioners a fantastic opportunity to address these needs with a lens that can make a meaningful difference in people’s everyday lives.’
