Dublin Institute of Technology appoints Professor Jonathan Jackson

Dublin Institute of Technology (DIT) has appointed Professor Jonathan Jackson as its second-ever Adjunct Professor in Optometry.

Prof Jackson is to join DIT as adjunct faculty from Royal Victoria Hospital, Belfast, where he became Northern Ireland’s first hospital optometrist and is now senior staff member in charge of 35 optometrists.

In the Republic of Ireland, the Health Service Executive (NHS equivalent) has begun to employ hospital optometrists for the first time.

Prof Jackson will give his inaugural lecture for DIT on November 21, outlining ways to expand hospital optometry in the Republic by drawing on his experiences in Belfast.

While in Dublin, he will also deliver a BCLA sponsored lecture to BSc Optometry undergraduates.
