Dispensing optician Iqbal Nabi has been given an 18-month interim order suspension by the GOC and could face criminal charges for alleged fraud against Hastings and Rother PCT.

A hearing on December 21 was told that the alleged misconduct involved carrying out sight tests on patients who were misled into thinking they had received a full test by an appropriately qualified professional. Up to 1,000 patients are said to have been affected in an 11-month period.

Nabi, a DO for 12 years, was arrested with two others by Sussex Police in November and is on pre-charge bail pending a decision on whether criminal proceedings will be instituted by the Crown Prosecution Service.
