DO denied restoration

Former DO Darren Reece Bedford has failed in his application to be restored to the GOC register.

Former DO Darren Reece Bedford has failed in his application to be restored to the GOC register.

Bedford was removed from the register on October 11, 2006 by a GOC fitness to practise committee. It found proven a number of allegations concerning incidents between April 2003 and February 2005. Bedford was found to have dispensed spectacles to persons under the age of 16, dispensed and fitted contact lenses and supervised a trainee DO, all of which when he was neither registered nor supervised.

The appeals committee felt public confidence in the profession would not be upheld if Bedford was restored to the register after such a short period of time.

Another hearing for restoration can take place in 12 months.
