The GOC's Fitness to Practise Committee imposed an erasure order on dispensing optician Dalvir Kaur Kallar of Wellstone, Kent. At a hearing in London the committee found proven that she had stolen frames and contact lenses with an approximate value of £5,000 on 26 occasions between December 2003 and August 2006, while employed as practice manager of Coton & Hamblin in Woolwich.
The panel heard how two members of the practice's staff discovered that frames had been provided to relations of Kallar, while other discrepancies came to light. It found that because of the gravity of the criminal offences committed, the lapses in honesty and integrity demonstrated as well as the consequent impact on the reputation of the profession, that Kallar's fitness to practise as a DO was impaired.
