DO struck off after theft

Dispensing optician who stole from the practice where she worked is struck off Council registers

A dispensing optician and store manager who stole £165 from the practice where she worked has been struck off Council registers by a fitness to practise committee.

Claire McShane was found to have taken the money after the store director noticed inconsistencies in takings. Examination of CCTV showed the registrant stealing funds between March 21-22 2013.

On September 21 2017, the registrant pleaded guilty at Hamilton Sheriff Court to one offence of theft. On October 26 2017, she was sentenced to a Community Payback Order of 100 hours.

The Council also alleged McShane failed to notify the registrar of the conviction but failed in its efforts to prove the allegation. In deciding sanction, the committee said it had considered both the serious of McShane’s actions and her attitude towards them.
