DO suspension is continued

An interim suspension order placed on a dispensing optician found guilty of fraud has been continued at a General Optical Council fitness to practise committee review hearing.

Iqbal Nabi, formerly of New Global Vision in Hastings, was given a 12-month suspended sentence at Hove Crown Court in March (News 13.01.13) after being found guilty of fraudulently claiming for NHS glasses and eye tests (News 06.07.12). He was also given a two-year mental health treatment order.

At the seventh review hearing in March 2013, the High Court extended the order placed upon the registrant until June 17 2014. At last week’s FTP hearing, the committee said it remained satisfied that the grounds on which the original interim order was initially made remained valid.
