DOCET offers interactive CET

Education

DOCET has released its first resource to offer interactive distance learning CET points in line with the GOC's new 2013-15 Enhanced CET cycle.

A new training film, called Vision in the Real World, encouraged optometrists to improve their visual task analysis skills, the provider said.

In the new training programme, presented by Dr Basil Singer, practical advice and guidance has been combined with a series of short extracts of dramatised consultations, which can also be viewed as full length patient cases.

Three interactive CET points were available to optometrists who complete the related MCQs and a short interactive exercise.

Philippa Shaw, DOCET's training adviser on the film, said: 'Visual task analysis and dispensing is an area that many optometrists lack confidence in. To give the best advice and recommendations to patients, it is essential to know exactly how patients use their eyes at work and at home and how aspects of their lifestyle may affect their eyes.

'All patients have their own specific characteristic visual needs that they need to be able to meet so they can perform their tasks efficiently, safely and in comfort. A comprehensive understanding of the visual demands likely to be encountered by each individual is therefore important.'
