A community eye bus offering care on wheels has finally won the backing of its local primary care trust.

Dorset PCT has offered a contract for optometrist Jane Fisher to provide NHS-funded eye examinations in her Eye Bus facility - paving the way for mobile practices in the future.

She said: 'My patients really believed in the service and really wanted me to keep going. Unfortunately, there was only a finite time I could continue doing it without a contract.

'Now it has been resolved I can finally start to move my business forward. As a result of this decision by Dorset PCT it potentially allows other opticians to reach out into their local rural community and help those who cannot access regular high street opticians.'
