A specially arranged two-day CET course to help dispensing opticians gain essential CET points before the summer is out has been announced by ABDO.
The course will take place on July 31 and August 1 at the Association's Godmersham college, and GOC/Vantage accreditation has been applied for.
'As a dispensing optician you will be aware that it is necessary to accrue 36 standard credits by December 31 2006,' ABDO's invitation states, 'the GOC has stated in their Bulletin #3 to registrants that contact lens opticians must accrue 18 contact lens credits up to 16 of which may be double counted towards their general credits, bringing their total requirement down to 38 (20 general plus 18 CL).
'Please join us for this interesting course and gain the necessary credits in both general dispensing and contact lens points.'
On the first day lectures include: 'The DO's role in refractive surgery patient management', 'Referral obligations: who, what, when and whereÉ', 'High-value dispensing' and 'Vitamin and mineral supplements: can they help our patients?'.
The second day will include: 'The new GOC legislation and CL practice', 'Dry eye management', 'Aftercare and the management of clinical complications' and 'soft toric problem solving'.
Attendance fees are £99 for the two days for ABDO members (£135 for non-members), and £75 for a single day (£111 for non-members).
