Specsavers founders Doug and Dame Mary Perkins joined children’s book character, the Gruffalo, and a military choir in Plymouth to open the first opticians in a Sainsbury’s supermarket.
The Gruffalo welcomed children and posed for photographs while the Plymouth Military Wives choir treated shoppers at Sainsbury’s to a performance where they sung a harmonised version of a Gary Barlow song.
‘Plymouth was one of the first cities to open a Specsavers store when we first started,’ said Dame Mary: ‘I’ve no doubt that the store’s location in Sainsbury’s will provide a solution to many families that are strapped for time, local residents and commuters from the nearby A38.’
