A driver suffering from glaucoma has been jailed for causing death by dangerous driving after he collided with a mother and daughter crossing the road – killing the older lady.

Peter Conroy, 73, was this week sentenced to two years in prison for causing the death of 93-year-old Audrey Norden.

According to a statement by Lincolnshire Road Safety Partnership (LRSP), although Conroy knew of his eye condition he falsified his ‘self-certification’ with the DVLA and continued to drive his car.

On September 4 2012 he failed to give way to pedestrians on a zebra crossing on Boultham Park Road, near Lincoln, and collided with Norden and her daughter Margaret Elvidge, who also suffered serious injuries as a result of the collision. Norden died 47 days later in hospital.
