Drivers warned of veering into sight issues this winter

85% have seen patients whose vision falls below the legal driving standard

A survey of 1,127 optometrists carried out by the Association of Optometrists found 85% have seen patients whose vision falls below the legal driving standard.

The AOP found 56% of respondents have seen more patients driving without an up to date prescription after eye exams were delayed during the pandemic.

Henry Leonard, professional adviser to the AOP, said: ‘Unfortunately, many serious driving accidents occur in the winter months, when driving conditions are worse and drivers’ vision becomes more limited, so it’s important you give yourself the best possible chance to avoid the dangers.’

Motorists have been reminded by the industry body to book a sight test and give themselves the best possible chance to keep safe on the road this winter.
