Dry eye and mental health correlation studied

Dry eye patients likely to suffer from depression, poor sleep and stress

A study in South Korea investigated the association between symptoms of dry eye disease and factors related to mental health.

Researchers found that patients with dry eye symptoms were more likely to experience short sleep duration, psychological stress perception and have a history of depressed mood.

They concluded that practitioners could experience patients reporting difficulties in sleep and mental health together when treating patients with dry eye disease.

The study, which was published in Scientific Reports, sourced data of Korean adults aged 20 or over from the 2010-2012 Korea National health and Nutrition Examination Survey.
