East Devon MP makes practice visit

East Devon MP Hugo Swire visited Brian Toye Opticians in Exmouth this month. It was arranged as part of an ongoing Optical Confederation campaign to raise awareness of avoidable sight loss.

Optometrist Brian Toye (pictured right) said optical practices could do a lot more to relieve the pressure on the health service and Swire vowed to report the message back to Westminster.

He said: ‘Clearly it is in all our interests that more people are treated locally rather than having to travel to hospital so I shall be speaking to my ministerial colleague the Health Secretary, Jeremy Hunt, to ask him to look at ways of encouraging more people to make use of the advances in equipment which many opticians now have.’
