Eating fruit and veg decreases cataract risk

UK Biobank investigated the link between fruit & vegetable and cataract risk

A study that used data from the UK Biobank has investigated the association between fruit and vegetable intake and the risk of cataract.

Researchers looked at the data of 72,160 people who were free of cataract at baseline, as well as assessing frequency and type of fruit and vegetable intake.

Development of cataract during the follow-up was defined by self-report or hospital inpatient records up to 2021.

The study concluded that more fruit and vegetable intake, especially legumes, tomatoes, apples and pears, were associated with lower risk of cataract in this UK Biobank cohort.
