The number and capabilities of modern electronic low-vision aids continue to grow apace. We recently had the good fortune to test two of the latest on the market on a number of patients during one of the visual impairment grand rounds sessions at City University.
It is apparent that prices are starting to drop and, more importantly, functionality is improving to a level where all of our mostly elderly patient sample found the units useful, easy to use and, in several cases, worthy of consideration to buy.
Acrobat
The Acrobat is a digital camera-based screen projection system allowing up to 72 times magnification and a range of ways of adapting an image to optimise viewing by the visually impaired.
