Rumours that Essilor could launch a takeover of Shamir have been dispelled by Essilor UK managing director Marc Tersigni.

In response to speculation fuelled by a story from Israeli newspaper the Daily Calcalist stating Essilor was negotiating to purchase Shamir, Tersigni said: 'I have heard this rumour a lot in the past and it continues to resurface every six months or so. No statements have been issued by Shamir. A spokesman for Shamir UK said Shamir Optical was a public company and any corporate news would come from Shamir in Israel.
