Boots OpticiansEssilor improved both its profits and sales by around a fifth in the first half of the year – with a new partnership with Boots credited for boosting UV protective lens supply.

A second quarter trading statement said partnerships with Boots in the UK and General Optica in Spain had ‘continued to bear fruit’.

Essilor had been bolstered by the adoption by Boots of UV-protection technology for all of its corrective lens solutions, as well as from the ‘ramp-up of the blue light protection offering’.

The French lens group posted revenue up 23 per cent to €3.4bn and bolstered its profits by around 20 per cent to €388m compared to the first half of last year.
