Essilor-Luxottica made a bid to purchase German omni-channel retailer Brille24, according to a report in national newspaper Handelsblatt.

The proposed deal, for an undisclosed fee, represented the first online retail acquisition since the merger of the two companies.

The digital portal has over 500,000 online customers and works with 150 opticians in physical retail locations in Germany.

The acquisition of Brille24 is subject to the approval of the German antitrust authorities and is expected to be completed in the second quarter of 2019.
