Essilor relocates its Optical Academy to the ABDO Centre in Birmingham

Essilor has relocated its Optical Academy to the ABDO National Resource Centre in Birmingham from Paris.

This move is to help support the centre and make courses more accessible to UK based opticians. Essilor has sponsored five training rooms in the facility to allow students to gain access to advanced technology and innovation. It also donated glazing examination equipment when the centre first opened such as dispensing aides like Visioffice 2 to help students through exams.

Jason Williams, Essilor’s marketing manager, said: ‘We’re delighted to support the new ABDO facility and help enhance the experience for optical students. We’re pleased that the decision to move the Optical Academy closer to home has made it more convenient to our independent business partners here in the UK because we know how much they value on-going learning to remain competitive.’

ABDO hosted an event at the centre that took place between November 14-15 and featured guest speakers including optical professor Mo Jalie and health psychologist Dr Fiona Fylan, who spoke about the psychology behind eyewear for drivers. The course was worth 20 CET accreditation points for those who attended.
