Essilor reacts to sun lens opportunities

Reacting to what it said was a sun lens sector growing twice as fast as the corrective lens market, Essilor International has built on recent expansion in the sun lens production sector with the acquisition of a 50 per cent stake in Singapore based Polycore Optical.

The Asian manufacturer, which Essilor described as one of the world’s leading sun lens producers, develops and manufactures a range of plano sun, prescription sun and clear lenses which are sold in its home market, along with Europe and the US.

Essilor said the manufacturer, which has 2,200 employees, had annual revenue of €30m. It has two production plants in Indonesia and Malaysia, and three prescription laboratories, including export laboratories in Indonesia and the Netherlands.
