Essilor discontinued its Varilux X series of lenses and confirmed the recently launched Varilux XR varifocal lens will replace it.
Alan Pitcher, commercial director for wholesale lenses at Essilor, said: ‘Varilux XR series is our most innovative product in the brand’s portfolio and the switching plan allows our eye care professional business partners to continue offering patients the very best solution to enhance visual acuity for patients.’
Essilor said Varilux XR series was its most high-tech lens and used behavioural artificial intelligence to deliver an eye-responsive progressive lens.
It said by predicting the visual behaviour of the patient, XR-motion technology reduced the optical disparities between the two lenses and ensured precise positioning of the focus zones adapted to each wearer.
