Essilor reported consolidated sales up 7.9 per cent for the first six months of 2005, with operating income up 15.4 per cent to €196.4m.
The company reported a very good second quarter, with like for like growth of 8.1 per cent, following the turnaround in Europe, where there was 'a sharp upturn in the main country markets and a return to normal business levels in Germany'.
There was an increase in sales of high value-added lenses, combined with a significant rise in volumes.
Other highlights were new product launches, the 1.67 and polycarbonate ranges of Transitions photochromic lenses and the worldwide launch of Varilux Ellipse small-frame progressive.
Essilor added that the acquisition of Johnson & Johnson's ophthalmic lens business would enhance its progressive lens portfolio.
