Essilor International has disclosed first half revenue of €1.520bn for the six-month period ended June 30.

This represents a 2.9 per cent increase in revenue against the same period in 2007.

According to Essilor like-for-like growth of 5.4 per cent was attributed to ‘a strong growth model built around innovation and acquisitions-led expansion.’

Essilor’s acquisitions in the period included the purchase of Satisloh and German lens wholesaler Nika.

European revenue during the period totalled €697.2m, a 3.2 per cent increase on the first six months of 2007.

Growth in Europe was said to be dampened by an exceptional increase in revenue in 2007 after the launch of the Varilux Physio and Anateo products and by a generally weaker economy.
