A Norwich landlord whose pub faces an optical practice has failed to prevent a CCTV camera being installed outside the practice, which he claims is being used to spy on his customers.

The installation of the CCTV camera is the most recent episode in a feud between the publican and the practice which saw an appeal from the opticians against the renewal of the pub's outdoor table and chair licence rejected. This was despite claims that its patients were subjected to 'foul and abusive behaviour' from drinkers (see News, May 30, 2008).

Phil Cutter of The Gardeners Arms pub in the Timber Hill area of Norwich told the city council's planning committee he felt the camera was being used by the practice to gather evidence against him, according to a report in the Norwich Evening News.
