Mark Zuckerberg has announced a multiyear collaboration between Facebook and EssilorLuxottica to develop a new generation of smart glasses.

Facebook’s apps and technology will be used alongside Luxottica’s lens technology and brands, with the first new product set to be released in 2021 and branded as a Ray Ban frame.

‘We’re passionate about exploring devices that can give people better ways to connect with those closest to them. Wearables have the potential to do that, and with EssilorLuxottica we have an equally ambitious partner,’ commented vice president of Facebook’s Reality Labs, Andrew Bosworth.
